The last time we did one of these mailbags, which I believe was approximately eight-and-a-half years ago, I believed that Gus Malzahn would be the head coach in 2021 and was already preparing myself for an offseason of hot seat questions.

About that.

Auburn has gone in a different direction, firing Malzahn on Sunday — and it still doesn’t have a clear direction on who will be the next coach, although one name has surged toward the front.
