Everything we heard from Alex Golesh on his first week at Auburn
And, trust us, it's a lot.
AUBURN — Alex Golesh said he had an “incredible first week” at Auburn.
To prove it, he then talked for 50 more minutes about it.
One week after his official introduction as Auburn’s new head football coach, Golesh met with the media Monday afternoon to talk about everything he learned and did over his first seven days on the Plains — from the continued process of building his first staff to the quick turnaround of signing a high school class in a very short time.
Golesh also continued to push his big-picture vision for the future of the Tigers: How they want to play, how they want to recruit and how they want to define the program.
And, of course, there’s all the work going into re-recruiting current players from a team that underachieved greatly but still boasts plenty of talent.
It was a marathon press conference. By the end of it, Golesh had spoken around 8,000 words and taken a dozen questions in the process. The Tigers’ new head man is a talker, but it’s not just a lot of empty coach speak. There’s a lot of focus and attention to detail in his answers, which was also the case at his intro last week.
Still, that’s a lot to sort through for a single press conference. We’ve got you covered, though. Here’s what stood out to us the most from Golesh’s post-first week presser, starting with the latest on his first staff of assistant coaches:
Golesh said he is “close” to finalizing his staff. He said that he is looking for “elite” people to work in every single aspect of the program, and “it’s going to take a minute to get everything filled,” because “there’s a ton of people that are still playing, a ton of people in the playoffs.” Golesh added that Auburn has “the resources to go out and hire the best people in the country.”
Here’s what we know about Golesh’s assistant coach staff right now:
