AUBURN — Get in, losers. We’re saving college football.

Well, that’s a stretch. I don’t know if the sport is able to be saved without some divine — read: not governmental — intervention. But we’ve gotta try to get some of it back.

This is the foundation of my stance against playoff expansion, which we discuss in the first couple of questions in this week’s mailbag. We start by looking at what it would take for Auburn to get back to contender level there, then it leads into a rant of sorts.

We’ve also got talk in here about potential money plays for Auburn’s new offense, an upset pick to watch on the 2026 schedule and an early look at the Baylor opener before we dive into the Olympic side of things with Auburn’s recent success and Messi Mania from earlier this week in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Thanks as always for sending in your questions. As always, you can email them or tweet them to me, or you can drop them in the post below if you’re a subscriber.

Let’s say the CFP doesn’t expand and stays at 12. How long will it take to consistently compete for a spot rather than the usual flash in the pan (2013, 2017) years?

Jacob

It depends on your definition of “consistently compete,” because I would argue that Auburn was right in that ballpark for about a decade and change not too long ago.
