Observations: Day 4 of Auburn Football Fall Camp + Basketball in Greece

Alex Golesh's Tigers were in shells for the first time, while Steven Pearl's Tigers got a good win overseas. Here's our full breakdown of both.

AUBURN — When Auburn took the field Saturday morning for fall camp practice number four, it was four weeks away from its season opener against Baylor in Atlanta.

The Tigers have a lot of work to do between now and then, but the vibes still remained high coming off another hot couple of hours of work on the Plains.

“I love this game,” receiver Christian Neptune said afterwards. “I love 7-on-7, but it's something different when there's contact. … Hearing the pads crack is something that we feed off of. It's just iron sharpens iron, every day.”

Saturday was the first day of shells — the first day when the team can go through practice in shoulder pads after three days of acclimation. The Tigers will have another practice Sunday before their first off day Monday. Then it will be time for full pads.

“I'm all about just that physicality,” receivers coach and former Auburn quarterback Kodi Burns said. “Like, that hard-nosed Auburn football. We gotta get back to that.”

Like the first two days of practice Wednesday and Thursday, media members were allowed to watch the first 30 minutes of practice — warmups, followed by three periods of individual drills — before interviews afterwards.

On Saturday, it was wide receivers day: Burns, along with four of his receivers. Since Chas Nimrod and Keshaun Singleton already did interviews this week, he was joined by Neptune, DeShawn Spencer, Jeremiah Koger and Bryce Cain.

“We have a lot of young guys, but with the versatility in the room, there's no fall-off,” Koger said. “We've all been grinding. We've all been chasing and trying to get on the field.”

While Auburn football wrapped up practice back on campus, Auburn basketball went through the first of two exhibition games against Serbian club KK Mega Basket thousands of miles away from home — way over in Mykonos, Greece.

Steven Pearl and his Tigers, despite being down four rotation players for various reasons, took care of business with a 92-71 win over the European team that produced former Auburn big man Filip Jović.

For today’s newsletter, let’s go through everything we saw and heard from an offense-focused viewing window of Auburn football fall camp — along with some bonus takeaways from what we gathered from basketball’s exhibition win in Greece.
