Observations: What we saw on Auburn football's first day of camp
The Tigers are finally back on the practice field. Here's what we gathered from almost an hour of action on Wednesday afternoon.
AUBURN — Football is back on the Plains.
After a summer of endless discussions about NIL reform, revenue-sharing, College Football Playoff expansion, conference realignment and scheduling, recruiting rankings and everything else under the sun, we actually have some ball to discuss.
Granted, it’s just practice. (Cue Allen Iverson.) And, granted, it was in shorts and out of pads.
But, with a little more than a month to go before a crucial season opener at Baylor, it’s still worthwhile football activity.
Media members got to watch almost a full hour of Auburn’s first practice Wednesday, which was pushed back from the morning to the afternoon. It was also, notably, the first practice in Nike gear for Auburn.
After sharing our No-Huddle Notes on what we heard from Hugh Freeze on Wednesday morning, here are some bullet points on what we got to see on the first day of Auburn football practice.
During an extended period of practice, Auburn’s offense went over to one field and went through three waves of a full-team pace drill against air. Here’s who and what we saw during this portion…
1st Offense
QB: Jackson Arnold
RB: Damari Alston
WR: Cam Coleman
WR: Perry Thompson
WR: Eric Singleton Jr.
TE: Brandon Frazier
LT: Xavier Chaplin
LG: Dillon Wade
C: Connor Lew
RG: Jeremiah Wright
RT: Mason Murphy
Arnold threw the ball constantly to Coleman during this period, including an intermediate ball near the sideline that the sophomore star receiver soared up for and high-pointed. It was one of the most impressive practice catches I’ve seen.
