If you thought roster management in 2021 was wild, wait until you see what’s happening for Auburn in 2022.
Bryan Harsin and his staff are looking to firmly put their stamp on the Tigers’ roster after a 6-6 regular season that showed some promise but ended poorly. Several star players have the potential to come back for next season, yet the allure of the NFL Draft and the ever-growing transfer portal will definitely impact more decisions.
Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class had been one of the smallest and lowest-rated ones in the SEC for a while now. However, there’s a lot of belief around the program that the Tigers will go on a big run in the early signing period, and the transfer portal will be a big source of talent again this offseason.
With all that in mind, now is a good time to bring back the scholarship chart for the Auburn football program. This is a position-by-position rundown of where Auburn stands right now, and we’ll try to keep it updated as much as possible this offseason here on The Observer.
Each position is broken down into several categories — players currently on the roster, 2022 commitments, reported targets, confirmed departures and 2021 seniors who at least have the option to return for a free final year of eligibility.
Two important things here: First, this is not an official scholarship count. Teams keep those numbers and all the math that goes into them close to the vest. A lot of movement will be happening, so the numbers might not always line up.
Second, I’m not a recruiting expert. The reported targets listed with each position group are thanks in large part to the (non-paywalled) stories and tweets of the excellent recruiting writers for 247Sports, Rivals and On3. (For recruit rankings and visit info in this piece specifically, I used the public 247 database.) If you want to dive deeper and get the full scope of Auburn recruiting, I highly encourage you to subscribe to those sites and support their work.
