Kevin Steele is obviously a defensive guy. But he still knows what it means for a program to sign a blue-chip quarterback.

When Steele was named Auburn’s interim head coach Sunday afternoon after the dismissal of Gus Malzahn, he had to go right to work communicating with the Tigers’ current players and commitments.

Steele obviously knew about all of the defensive pledges. But none of the offensive commitments were in his recruiting area, so he had to have a crash course on all of them. He needed to keep them in the class.
