AUBURN — It’s fitting that, just a few days after a fearless young combo guard helped lead Auburn to a landmark road win at Houston, the Tigers landed another one.
On the eve of the early signing period starting in college basketball, 4-star Kaden Magwood has announced his commitment to Auburn and Bruce Pearl over a recent Final Four team (NC State) and an SEC rival (Ole Miss).
The 6-foot-1 Magwood has been one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2025 class. He is currently ranked as the No. 44 overall prospect and the No. 7 combo guard in the country by 247Sports. Rivals and ESPN both have him as a top-60 player and just outside of their top 10s for shooting guards.
Originally from Louisville, Magwood spent his junior season at the famed Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. He is playing his senior season at Combine Academy in North Carolina, and he’s a member of the Blue Checks in the Overtime Elite league. Magwood is coming off a phenomenal AAU run with Virginia’s Team Loaded, too.
Auburn hopes that Magwood could be the start of a successful run for the 2025 class, as Tahaad Pettiford and Jahki Howard are the only non-seniors on the Tigers’ current roster.
In-state wing Simon Walker, who committed to Auburn in late September, is the only other member of the class. Auburn is also a finalist for top-40 overall prospect Sebastian Williams-Adams, who announces Sunday afternoon.
Magwood is an exciting pickup for Auburn. Like Pettiford, he exhibits an extreme amount of confidence and swagger on offense, and he is one of the best all-around scorers in the country. On3’s Jamie Shaw has named him one of the 10 best long-range sharpshooters and one of the 10 best pure bucket-getters in the 2025 class.
After watching hours of Magwood’s film from his junior season at Oak Hill and his recent AAU circuit with Team Loaded, here’s our breakdown of his game and what “K3” will bring to an Auburn basketball program looking to stay among the contenders in a new era for the roster.
Note: This piece has nearly 80 video clips of Magwood in it. They’ve been combined into several longer supercuts that highlight a certain aspect of his game. So, when you click one of the below videos, you’ll get all of the clips for that particular section of the breakdown.
Let’s begin with the skill that stands out the most on film: Magwood’s ability to create and hit his own shots from long range.
