So, Auburn fans: Y’all really ran through the spectrum of emotions this week, huh?

Auburn football sealed its first losing season since 2012 with a low-scoring loss in the Birmingham Bowl. Then, a little more than 24 hours later, Auburn basketball picked up a major victory over LSU in a historic SEC opener that featured a triple-double.

The football news wasn’t all bad, either, with Colby Wooden and Derick Hall both announcing later in the week that they would return to the team in 2022.

The final Mailbag of 2021 — wow, that’s a weird phrase to type — is both a temperature check on the football program after a brutal five-game losing streak and the basketball program in the midst of a nine-game winning streak. What’s the ceiling and the floor for both moving forward? What could be next in some truly unpredictable times?

We discuss all of that, plus giant pretzels, condiments, the best music of 2021 and victory memes. Let’s go.
