Another positive about the defense - Champ Anthony channeled some frustration on plays that looked like they can be game changing down the road. His break to the ball and open field tackling is really strong.

I enjoyed the commentary. I do believe that most Auburn fans and alumni like myself expected Auburn to easily win this football game. A team is not going to win any football games by throwing 4 interceptions and losing one fumble to Cal. As a friend told me, the coaches see these players at practice and they know who can perform well so Payton Thorne must be the best available option right now. You could make a change at QB right now or stay with Thorne and just get through the season until a better option is available. I have noticed that other SEC teams have been trying out other QBs in games with mediocre results. If you look around at some of the better SEC teams, Payton Thorne would probably rank in last place from what I have observed. Also, the offensive line play was challenged particularly at the blindside position. The defensive play calls seem to indicate to me that Cal had some good information on Payton Thorne’s tendencies. He has to have good coverage or he will bail out of the or take the sack. Of course, I do not have Auburn’s playbook, but I am sure that some RPOs were missed.

As I look at the remainder of the schedule, I see a difficult road ahead unless changes are made quickly. I now wonder if the money, new vehicles and NIL deals really equate to a better football team. Auburn looked like a lower tier NFL team trying to lose to get a better draft pick on Saturday.

Auburn still has football games to play and it will be up to the players flush this loss and hopefully perform better. Ironically, the game with New Mexico is now the most important game of the season. If Auburn loses this game, I fear that the season will be over.

War Eagle !
